The Faulhaber team needed a revamped web presence to better represent their vast experience within the communications industry and showcase their projects and expertise.

When starting any project, it’s important to identify the key stakeholders and assess each of their concerns and needs. We worked closely with the Faulhaber team from the outset in order to incorporate the ideas of their team members and executives. Regular meetings were established over each phase of the project wherein we gathered feedback about their existing website as well as developed ways to transform the website into a better vehicle for company growth and overall communication.

During the planning phase of the project we took all the information gathered and compared it with their existing documentation and analytics in order to determine our overall approach for the final product. We reviewed existing metrics and outlined key performance indicators, demographics, and goals that would help establish the new website’s features, data capture strategy, and third-party integrations.

Information Architecture

In the UX phase of this project we converted the material created in the strategy and planning phases into focused data maps, content plans, and detailed wireframes. This included mapping content to features and creating flexible components that could be introduced into any layout as needed. The final stage of this process was to create a working prototype of the site in order to test and prove that we had created an application that’s structure and content satisfied the key targets, demographics, and goals defined in the previous planning phase.

For the design of the website we collaborated with the skilled team at Mighty. Our role in the design process was to ensure that the designs stayed within the project scope, and were designed around the components created in the UX phase. During this phase, we collaborated with both the Mighty team as well as the Faulhaber team to create mood boards and solidify the style guide that would define the user interface. Detailed elements, components, and final layouts were created with many versions being reviewed and refined. This resulted in a very streamlined, monochromatic style with a strong focus on content, imagery, and an intuitive and uncluttered interface.

Everything came together in the development phase. We compiled all of the information, structure and design elements into a final coded product. In this project’s case, we built a website that used some of the most modern web technologies available to extend an already robust content management system. To achieve this, we customized much of the existing user administration area to create an easy to edit experience for the Faulhaber content managers. This included connecting various data types together to create an array of flexible components. Some key components of this project included: a fully indexed search with real-time responses, fluid content overlays, rich media embed capabilities, dynamic asynchronous loading of content, and a wide range of templates that are optimized for both mobile and desktop environments.

Integrations & Analytics

One of the biggest goals for this project was to create a platform that could report on data better than the previous website. We included page, acquisition, campaign, and behavioural tracking as well as custom metrics around form and newsletter submissions. We also integrated social sharing and built the platform to empower content managers to focus on search engine scores and overall quality of the content. In addition to these features, there are now detailed metrics regarding search queries and results in order to better understand user roadblocks for future content and marketing expansion.
